1. on sunday we are hosting an afternoon with chef and food activist Bryant Terry, author of the hit cookbook Vegan Soul Kitchen. You don’t have to be vegan to enjoy his “fresh, healthy, and creative african-american cuisine” – you’ll find everything in this book from an amazing new way to cook collards, to fabulous music recommendations to accompany each recipe. the books are available at the store, but this sunday you’ll get the chance to meet the author! )

Originally self-published, this book was the reason we first built the site and ventured into e-commerce, back in the dial-up days in summer 2001. It was picked up and reissued by a US gift book publisher in 2003 and made available nationwide in a brand-new edition; in 2004 it was even translated into Japanese!
