On Memorial Day, America honors those who have lost their lives in service. I wanted to share this audio of interviews with Black soldiers during the VietNam conflict, which is an undertold story. The album was released by Motown Records in the late 1970s, and it was called “Guess Who’s Coming Home.” It was never reprinted, rereleased, or digitized… i didn’t want this piece of history to be buried so i’m presenting the first side of the album here.

As we celebrate on this day, remember the fallen, and connect with friends and family, let’s keep in mind that certain stories continue to be untold … right now for instance gays and lesbians in the military are fighting for the country but still struggling for their rights.
this is the fourth clip of media chronicling my kid’s obsession with music. previous episodes featured video of his learning to use turntables and figuring out how to scratch and use the mixer.
this bathtime audio clip was my attempt to catch him in his daily, non-equipment-reliant musical expression. enjoy!

At this time of year I always think about those who came before us – their lives, their sacrifices, and their triumphs. This is dedicated to them in thanks and praise. So when you dance please keep in mind those who could not and open your heart for those still to come. 50 minutes.
I apologize for the names I miss on this one as some of the records I used this time were white labels – but here, as best as i can, are the players in the ritual in no particular order: Osunlade, Michael Jackson, Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, Aloe Blacc, Malcolm X, Cymande, Femi Kuti, Joan Baez, Terrence Trent Darby, Pharaoh Sanders.
Bollywood smoothed out on the R&B tip with a pop feel… appeal… to it.
